Project phases

Internet service is an information system which should be modelled the same way as any information system in a company or organization.

The phases of the Internet service project are the following:

  • Analysis
  • Design
  • Implementation
  • Testing
  • Introduction
  • Maintenance.

These phases belong normally to all information systems projects. They may progress:

  • as a waterfall. This means that the phases follow each other sequentially which is the traditional way.
  • iteratively. This means that from one phase you may go back to the previous to make corrections and changes.
  • as a spiral. This means that after the rough overall picture which is made at the beginning of the analysis phase, one project group may analyse, for example, one process and the related information, continue the design, implementation, testing and perhaps proceed as far as introduction. At the same time, another project group may analyse another process and continue with that in the same way.
