Internet Services - Modelling and Developing

Maintenance phase

The Internet service has to be developed so that it is easy to maintain. It has to be flexible meeting the changeable business requirements. The maintenance must be carefully planned and the related responsibilites determined. The maintenance is not the same as fixing bugs: they have to be fixed already in the testing phase. The maintenance is, on one hand, updating the information of the system, on the other hand, the futher development of the system to make it compatible with the changing business environment.

The information of the system should be updated automatically so that there is no risk that the Internet service has outdated information. The automatic update requires system integration: the information should be updated in the Internet service at the same time as some other system is being updated.

Small Internet services can be updated manually. In that case, there should be a specified person responsible for the updating and he or she must have information about all the information which have to be updated in the Internet service. In the Net, there are too many Internet services advertising e.g. some events as current even though they were held already over a year ago.

The controlled futher development of the system consists of successive or parallel Internet service projects in which the existing Internet service will be extended with new features to improve customer satisfaction and the competitiveness of the business.
