In the design phase, the description of the goal situation will be specified by taking into account the technical environment in which the Internet service is implemented. This demands, on one hand, information about the organization's present information systems and, on the other hand, understanding of technical possibilities and visions. An Internet service of the organization should not be based on some passing technical hype - at least, if it is meant to serve the organization and its customer for a long time.
In the design phase, the Internet service's environment and technology will be chosen. The organization's information security rules and their requirements to the implementation should be taken into account.
In the design phase, the user interface and the structure of the Internet service will be described. This applies also to the connections of the organization's internal systems and the possible connections to the systems of the external partners. The business experts should be involved also in this phase although the contribution of the systems developers rises as the number of tehnical details increases.
The phases of Internet service project after which is executed the analysis phase, may be outsourced to a systems supplier. However, the representatives of the business should supervise the systems supplier using agreements and monitoring to ensure that the supplier follows the description of the goal situation made in the analysis phase.
